Graybeard;
I would agree on all points. I believe scientists fail to
take into account the pressure that is applied. So they say
it takes millions of years and so does "carbon dating".
Carbon dating has been shown to be extremely inaccurate.
But, continues to be used anyway. I believe the Earth to be
less than 10K years old. Anything that is on this planet is
also less than 10K years old, including the petrified wood.
I believe the light that comes to us from the stars is less
than 10K years old. Carl Sagan's ignorance of God does
speak volumes, wonder what ol' Carl has to say, now that he
knows there really is a God. Or maybe he's still in denial.
There's no denying Carl was an intelligent man, he just
missed the mark by a light year or two.
I believe God spoke petrified wood into existence. " There
is nothing that is created, that was created by God and for
His pleasure it was created." I also believe that
speaking-it-into-being can be an ongoing process and that
petrified wood is still being created, i.e.: by pressure, or
"whatever process" God uses to create it. The same goes for
diamonds, coal, oil, etc.
When scientists first went back to Mt. St. Helens after the
eruption and went into Spirit Lake they found a phenomena
that they thought took place over eons and eons and eons.
"What was it?", you ask. It was trees floating at the
bottom of the lake. No big deal, in and of itself. But,
these trees were floating VERTICALLY, not horizontally.
Vertical trees were one of "the rules" used for defining how
many eons had passed-by for that tree to become covered in
layer after layer of volcanic eruptions (ash, etc.). POP!
Another balloon was burst. Just "shows to go 'ya" that God
is Master of the universe.

| I agree that when God created the Earth He created things
with
|"apparent" age ie if Adam had cut down a huge tree within
the hour he
|first stood up it would have had many rings even though it
was only a
|couple of days old. This would have occurred because of
necessity that
|creation be uniform in its processes. Perhaps they even had
belly buttons
|( Adam and Eve ). I never gave much thought to petrified
wood though.
| I have read that coal or diamonds actually form over short
periods of
|time not eons per geology. Pressure is the key not time.
Your post made
|me think about trees.
| Let me go back to apparent age. I saw Carl Sagan on the
Tonight Show
|with Johnny Carson a few years back. Johnny asked Carl
about stars and
|light years. Carl explained that light had to travel many
thousand years
|from a star to get to Earth and the star light we see
tonight is actually
|thousands of years old or left the star x thousand years
ago proving the
|vast age of the universe. Then he said it's either that or
God created it
|just to fool people. I immediately realized Carl had said
the wisest
|thing he had every said without knowing it. He was trying
to show his
|intellect over God's but God uses foolishness to compound
the wise.
| So from this line of thought either God spoke petrified
wood into
|existence as per your suggestion or it forms from natural
processes in
|short periods of geologic time. Just wondering out loud.
| No offense taken.
