Sandy:
Thanks for your thoughtful post. We, as parents, sometimes get caught up in
wanting to be our children's friends. When really we should be what we
are... Parents. I hope that my children someday realize that my parental
relationship with them has required me to be more strict than their friends'
parents. That I am strict because I love them not because I want to punish
them or be mean to them. I hope they realize that my role as a father is
more important than being a "friend" and letting them do as they please.
We can look at our Heavenly Father and see the importance of this
relationship. What kind of world would we live in if we could do whatever
we want with no regard to consequences?
I want to encourage you and tell you while you may not be doing the
"popular" thing you are doing the right thing for your boys. I know that
your sons will come to understand what wonderful parents they have in you.
God Bless,
John Winter
