All,
I sat and watched teh evening news when afterteh shooting took place in
Colorado and all I could do is cry. Afterwards my wife and I prayed for
the families and talked about what happened. There were so many
questions going through my mind during the news, "Why is this happening?
When are you comming back Jesus to stop all of this evil and killing?
Isn' t there any other way to make tour point Jesus?" Jesus answred me,
"What are you doing to change this? What are you doing to stop the
killing and evil? Wait, my point will be made." On Sunday one of the
ladies in our church that is usually quiet and reserved, got up and
shared a word from God. She told the congregation about an accident that
had happened just down the street from her work and that somebody was
killed in the accident. Some of her co-workers said, "Wow, you never
know when you are going to die, It is really important to make peace with
your family every day." She would reply, It is even more important to
make peace with God."
How many times a day do we have the chance to change a life for eternity
and let that chance slip away? How many times are we prompted by God to
share teh gospel with someone, but back out at the last minute. What are
we afraid of? Why do we back down? Why do we sit in front of the
evening news and judge others and God rather than judge ourselves! I am
just as guilty at the last few sentences as the rest of us. When are we
going to take responsibility for the command we were given by Jesus and
"Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation." (Mk
6:15). We have been given all power and authority to preach the gospel,
lay hands on the sick, cast out demons, even raise the dead.
What are we afraid of? That we'll be thought of as being weird? That we
are judgemental? Or that we will be rejected by our friends? God did
not give us a spirit of fear. We have no reason to fear. So what if we
are thought of as being weird (some of us are weird <G>) If people think
we are being judgemental, they are probably being convicted by the holy
spirit. (although, we do have to be careful and preach the cospel out of
love and compassion). If I loose a friend because of Christ, he or she
wasn't much of a friend to begin with. I would rather loose a friend in
this world that loose Christ in the next.
I don't know the name of the girl that died professing her faith. What I
do know is, I want to be like her. I do not want to back down if there
is a gun pointed at my head. "Christ in me is to live, to die is to
gain." I don't want to back down because I am afraid. I want to press
in all the harder.
Brothers and sisters, we need to pray for boldness. We need to pray for
wisdom. We need to do more than pray for the souls, we need to go out
and bring those souls in for Christ.
