A wise pastor once told me that when you take or keep something from your 
kids be sure to replace it.  That is what we tried to do in that we always 
tried to give them alternatives to Halloween, movies, etc.  When they become 
teenagers, now there is the challenge.  You want to gradually give them the 
right to choose, but what if they start choosing wrong.  I had to face that.  
My oldest seemed to always choose wrong, but the youngest did much better.  
They are 19 and 21 now. 
  What can I say to parents of preteens?  Continue to invest in your kids 
even if they resist it.  Investing your time is most important.  Work with 
the children's ministries at church, Rangers, Missionettes, youth, whatever 
they are involved in.  Do everything you can see that the bulk of their 
friends come from church.  Have them over as much as possible. 
 Above all cover them with prayer.
