Intresting you should ask about Scouts in the summer.. as
I'm heading out now to a BSA summer camp...

Scouts *allmost must... attend the meeting and campouts to stay in favor
with the "Trail to Eagle".. Like Ranger Commanders who attend every event
because they are "responsible" so it is that the boy leaders of a troop
are "responsible" for every asspect of a camping program. When older
boys say Trailblazer on up know the camp is their job.. and have
experiance with the social skills of phone tag...

Things happen<G>

In troop 328 those that attend the campouts advance.. those that don't..
lag sometimes for years in advanceing. I thought it was harsh, coming from
a Ranger heritage... But Scouts model the real workworld, and real
adventure...

Two camps in the scouts are simular to Ranger camps.. a "camporee"
where scouts compete as patrols against other patrols.. and Summer camp
which is a Merit Camp for advancement lasting a week with a scedule of
activities and classes ect.

The other Troop events this summer are 2 15 plus mile backpack trips
and a rafting adventure on the Dechutes..

*These cost bucks.. and that is another difference from Rangers.
Scouts seem to have bucks.. and along with $175 for a summercamp comes
Nike shoes and gortex pullovers and polypro- longjohns along with the
scout shorts and socks<G>

I'm much more likely to get into a conversation about map reading with the
scouts than a Ranger outpost<G> *However... all said and done,I am Royal
Ranger to the core..

At a Ranger camp. I can stop.. raise my hands and begin to pray outloud!
I can hug and embrace my brothers and laugh with freedom and understanding
of the roles God has appointed us to fill..

The boys watch us...

*One last thing about scouts- on the trail. allways a boy sets the pace
and leads. Adults allways follow<G>
