Dear John:
I have no criticism over the intent of Boy Scouts, but I too have had experience
with the Scouting program both as a leader and as a boy. If I knew about Royal
rangers as a boy it may have spared me a lot of hurt as a young man growing up
being in a atmosphere where I may be loved by other boys and have learned a
great deal of stuff I was destined to learn IE: camping skills and true faith in
Jesus Christ.
I think it was Lord Baden Powels vision for the original Boy Scouts of England
to find faith in Jesus Christ and the original American Boy Scouts probably
encouraged faith in Christ. The problem I see with Scouting today is that too
much political correctness and too much secular humanism has crept into the
Scouting program within many councils. It would be wrong for me to say that the
entire Scouting program has abandoned Christ. I recall a couple of incidents
within our council where mothers took offense about speaking of hunters in a
favorable light. If I would have worn my coon skin hat to a scout meeting I
would have been at great risk of getting flamed by animal rights activists from
within the council.
It is incidents like these that make me against Scouting in general.
