The title "Lord" was awarded Baden Powell for his Military service in the "Boar war"
Intrestingly.. Baden Powell had failed in school and thought he had 'dis-honored his
family.. He joined the British army when the thinking was that common soldiers
should
be "commanded" and not enguage in too much individual thinking... Baden Powell
was be-seiged, and developed a different system of respect for individualisum..
The "Patrol".... in this unit was encouragement and resources greater than your own
abilities.. Leadership was placed in these units and members could communicate thru
the "chain of command" up as well as recieve orders... these "Patrols" could use
their
own judgement to develop tactics as needed on the ground.. the resultant inovation
succeeded and he was asked to write a resource book for other troops as to the
skills
a "Patrol" would need...
The book called: "Scouting" became popular with boys as a summer game...
camping out and signaling reports back and forth over the ground in England.
Upon retirement.. Baden Powell seized this idea as a way to promote traditional
values among the youth of England simular to the then active "Boys Brigade"
*Sir Brian of Wiggen has more info on that group.. they are still very-active.
Baden Powell tested his ideas with a series of Summer camps on an Island in
the south of England... and that began the promotion of "Boy Scouting"...

*Keeping the Main thing- the main thing.. makes me think that 'Coon hats
ain't as important as I might have thought at one time..<G> I think today..
building bridges is better than narrow paths with our brother Boy Scouts...
They have many things right... Resources- Organization- Name recognition..
*What can we do to bless them? *Promote their mission as we reflect on the "Golden
rule"?
