as for bow and drill is quite an impressive method if you have the technique
down but it takes practice and the right materials. At the Cincinnati
pow-wow 2 years ago a trailranger and I built a fire and burned a string 2
foot of the ground in five minutes using this technique. As the smoke began
to rise from the dry cedar base board brad slowly increased the pressure on
the rod as I increased the speed of the drill. In no time we had a spark on
the char cloth and the rest is history.

Another method which I tried this winter and had some success is using ICE .

Yes Ice to build a fire.....

You take a piece of ice about 1/2 inch thick which is clear not milky and
take you fingers and form the ice with each side concave and use this as a
magnify glass to direct the suns rays to a point. you just have to be
careful not to let the ice drip on your tender.
