To those who cry out against the upcoming changes for fear they will
no longer recognize Royal Rangers, or that the changes will somehow
cheapen the GMA, or any other reason, please realize that Rangers
is at a crossroads. Lets look at kids in the early 1960's. Things
like Columbine were not even considered possible, but we have it
today. The program must change because those very boys we hope
to reach, teach, and keep have changed. I don't like change very
much, but I'm not in Rangers because I liked the program, I'm
in because God called me. I will, therefore, put my hand to the plow
under the leadership that God has installed, and I will do my very
best to ensure that the Royal Ranger program that is inaugurated
at National Council 2002 is the absolute best it can be. If I
think something is wrong, I'll say so. My District Commander
will testify to that! But I will always propose a possible
solution. God has entrusted us with the Ranger program to reach,
teach, and keep boys for Christ. The program is changing. The
reasons are real and documented. Let us not shortchange the
future in an attempt to preserve the past.

As for the National Officers, I met them down in Springfield.
I am somewhat of a nit-picky person, and I will say that I
was impressed with the things they have done and with the
changes they have proposed. Further, I found them open, and
willing to talk and listen. Anyone who says different didn't
meet the people that I did. I live in NH. The Regional
meeting where the new program was discussed was held in
Fallin Waters WV. That's an 11 hour drive. At National
Council the NNED asked National for a designated representative
to attend our District-Wide Commanders Conference on April 8
to give the presentation and keep us informed. That's less
than a month's notice. Within 2 days, we had a commitment from
Mike Laliberty. They were sensitive to the size of our region,
and the need to keep us informed. When contacted, these new
folks return emails, they return phone calls. Despite the
fact that I have a few differences of opinion, I find myself
respecting them and willing, even eager, to work with them.

It was a big change to go from having a mobile tabernacle
to a stationary temple for the Israelites, but it was God's
time. Likewise, it is God's time. Do not be like the Israelites
who left Egypt and fell in the desert due to unbelief, but
be like David, who believed and followed God where He was leading.
The future is bright, it is in our hands. Let us all work
together to mold it.
