The problem? He did not win the higher number of votes. It's only the "old"
system that makes him the winner, even if more US-citizens voted for his
opposite.

This is democracy.

In the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson states the following
about the British King:

"He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts
of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation
in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants
only."

I know, what some of you call 'republican' (and not 'democratic') is not
exactly the same but doesn't it represent some more than others in
legislature? Isn't that taking away (at least a part) "a right inestimable
to them and formidable to tyrants only"?

Germany is called a Republic, too (Federal Rapublic of Germany (FRG)), but
we do have equal votes.
