*No not in Texas whar yah Gottah have a fiddle in da band!<G>
But if'n you go back..
You'll see the Banjo was a key element in primitive Ragtime-
Dixieland- and early Jazz!
*..as somewat o' a Banjer con-o-sour<G>
I find the technique to be Banjo strum'n and adds a
'ripping sound behind the brass in early jazz..
Banjer that were played in that manor were the tenor
and plectrum form without the 5th string..
5 string is a unique American invention that has two
primary styles
1. Old tyme 'frailing- 'knocking or 'clawhammer
2. finger picking (2 or 3 mostly) and general called
"Scruggs style.." In honor of a man I hold second to
Cdr.Johnnie Barnes, the master of 3 finger Earl Scruggs..
*who BTY got his start playing again in church!
(A Trend to note for possible future reference)
*as a total aside...
I happen to also play the fiddle<G> *poorly.. and
own a 4/4 with the bridge shaved for "cherokee saw'n"
or "double stop" that was part of Bob Wills group-
"The Texas Playboys"
*It's mighty fine though my youngbuck dropped it in the dark
at National Rendezvou and tweeked out the center post so
that I need it looked at before tentioning the strings...
Kids!
(*I'll carry it dad... oh, oooops!)
