Clint is right. The music itself is God's, and almost any musical style can
be used for Good to glorify God or musical styles can be used for evil.
One of my favorite Christian music artists is Carman. He can takes a
multitude of musical styles, gives them Holy lyrics, and glorifies God with
them.
Today, I attended a "Music and the Missionary" course at G. I. A. L.,
courtesy of the ethnomusicology department. It was wonderful to hear (and
in some cases, sing and perform) samples of Christian music in a variety of
languages and cultures all over the world. Some of these really sounded
DIFFERENT than what you and I are used to, but they all glorified God.
Praise God!
We also looked at the Biblical basis for music, and one thing we noticed
was that the list of instruments we are supposed to praise God with (listed
in the Psalms in various places) includes some of the very same instruments
listed as being used in idol worship in the book of Daniel. The fact that
someone might use a musical instrument or style for evil doesn't prevent
God's people from using the same musical instruments for good.
By the way, did you know that some churches used to ban pipe organ music
because it used to be used for evil purposes?
Praise God with all kinds of music!
