I really feel the need to jump in here after reading all of yesterday's posts.

I don't know how Liane got the idea that LTC was going to be harsh, hard, a
trial
or whatever, but LTC was never intended to be any of those. True, there is
a lot
of material to cover. True, there is a certain amount of homework and
reading to
do. But I have never felt that there was too much work to do. Unless your
life
has you busy and running from dawn to midnite seven days a week, you should be
able to squeeze a few hours a week for LTC. Do your required reading
during your
lunch hour!

The LTC instructor can choose to make the course as difficult or as easy as
he/she
wishes it to be. Most choose a middle road that allows for learning and some
fellowship at the same time. Bottom line: ya gotta learn about the program you
plan to run. Say you already are great at crafts and games. So
what? Know all
there is to know about camping and nature? So what? There is a lot more
to this
program than those four topics. Soul-winning, counseling, history and
organization
are also covered.

Look at it like this: You cannot expect to walk out on a football field
and know
what to do by instinct. You will need to learn rules, principles, teamwork
and
techniques. The same goes for Royal Rangers. If you plan to participate in any
other ministry, I am sure you will be asked to get some training.

Above all, please do not approach LTC as a burden or a punishment or a
trial to be
endured. It is your opportunity to learn about Royal Rangers, to find out what
other leaders have learned and what works for them.

If you feel you don't have the time or the inclination to attend LTC, then
perhaps
this isn't the ministry for you. There are many other ministries in the church
that are not as 'harsh' and that do not demand as much work and time from
you...

I do not wish for anyone to take anything I have said as a personal attack, but
I do feel I needed to share my feelings. This is basically part of my
introductory
talk when I begin teaching any section of LTC, which I have done since 1987...
