Funding raising and outpost budgets I think this is a great topic for RangerNet! Aside for when I was Senior Commander at the Naval Base Chapel in Yokosuka Japan with a very large government funded outpost, I have had my most succesful experiences with handling an outpost budget when the church agreed to give me $25.00 per boy per quarter. As my outpost grew, so did my budget. If the outpost shrank, so did the budget. (as it should) A boy "counted" if he attended at least 50% of the outpost meetings the previous quarter. This $100 a year credit I received per boy made up 40% of my overall budget. We raised the rest through fund raisers. (http://www.rangerdj.com/fundraising.asp) >From the budget, each outpost age group received quarterly funds based upon the size of the group to purchase crafts, snacks, materials etc...
If you're looking for a good idea on how I handle my outpost budgets, go to. http://www.rangerdj.com/index.asp?info=startupcosts A short note about fund raisers. If you are looking to raise a couple hundred bucks, DO NOT hold a fund raiser, unless you are also considering the social value of the event. The best solution to raising a couple hundred bucks is simply to pass the hat. I would rather put $50.00 in a hat than spend the considerable amount of time and effort it takes to organize even the simpliest of fundraisers to raise a couple hundred dollars. By far the easiest fund raiser I have ever had has been selling grocery store coupon books. They cost me $1.00, the boys sell them for $5.00. The book usually has a five dollar coupon in the front! I award prizes to boys who sell over a hundred. (One go getter RangerKid sold 350+ one year, and over 400 the next year! I'll do the math for ya. $1400/$1600 profit!) Sometimes you have boys who of course don't sell anything... to solve this I have often thought about asking the parents to "buy" the first 20 books. ($100.00) then they get their money back when they get their boy to sell the books. :-) DJ -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, July 16, 2005 11:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [RR] Funding. Real Purpose. I was wondering how much your outpost receives each year in support from your church? What would be an average? Our outpost ran anywhere from 15 thousand a year to 4500 hundred a year. We probably averaged 6500 a year over a 8 year pierod and that was doing the old program where we gave the boy a uniform after his third consecutive meeting attendance. Yes we had a few that never came back...but we had a lot that did and wore those uniforms out wearing them each and every wed night. Those were the good ole days. We didnt have a budget we were just told to run the program the way it was supposed to be ran. The boys had their handbooks and recieved their medals and merits most often right when they earned them. We had a staff of 7 outpost council and 25 leaders and averaged some 30 outtings a year. Our new pastor took our budget and graciously cut it to five hundred per year. I stayed as Sr. Commander for 6 months. That was 3 years ago. He did this to all the ministries I was told. The RR were told they could work and would have to raise their own funds. It's just about killed the outpost. They are almost back to bible drill and kick ball. Its hard seeing the resources just drying up and blowing away. I have remainded faithful to the outtings, and actvities but am not involved in the weekly meetings. The Pastor is the key to a successful RR program. I agree. This pastor from the good ole days has taken another church in our Section that barely had the money to buy toilet paper and is about to build a new bigger sanctuary for their church. Their Royal Rangers will soon take off and grow as well. In our Church were starting to hord trash bags. All these covenants that these pastors are trying to get new members to signup and pay for are as vain as the vain repetitions of prayers. It's a waste of time and if these pastors would learn that God gives the blessing and stirs the hearts of people to give and put their faith once again in God providing that he will provide and bring the harvest in both money and souls. We are not living in the old testement law neither do I believe the chruch is intitled to 10% of my income. They no longer are taking care of the sick and widows. The government does that... and I am giving 35% of my income to uncle sam right now. Its very obvious to me where my source comes from. Putting my faith in vices and other means is a total waste of time. There should be enough fodder here to keep you guys busy for a long time.
