Its asking a lot of your boys to tell adults why they need leaders. Kind of
makes me wonder who could lead whom. Even having the boys tell the
congregation how much they like Rangers assumes some degree of a healthy
outpost. If you can do that, wonderful! If it seems like a daunting task,
your outpost might most effectively be treated as a mission outpost under the
wing of an outpost of a larger church in the area.
Develop close ties with other Ranger leaders in your section and make sure
they are aware of your needs. Maybe you can get some of them to speak at your
church.
I just thught of this because we have men's cell groups at our church (not
Ranger related) and we have some men who attend weekly meetings who have no
cell group meetings with men of their own church. It works so well in men's
ministries, maybe it will work with Rangers also.
As you know, you won't bring any men into the Ranger ministry by laying a
guilt trip on them. Also, it seems to be unreliable to ask them to just hang
around on Ranger nights to "help out" and hope that a commitment kind of
develops out of habit. Not very many men are going to be enticed by the idea
of helping boys do workbooks, standing at attention and reciting pledges and
general meeting routines. Men have to be grabbed by the heart and by their
spirit. Some of the same things that piques an intrest in boys will also pique
an intrest in men. Adventure is one of those things. Plan some adventurous
events that physically can not be accomplished, with the leadership you have.
Tell the men of the church what your plans are and describe how they will be
needed to bring those plans to fruition.

A couple of weeks ago I had the duty of doing what you are about to do.
Because of a church split last year we lost several commanders and boys. Now we
have only one commander for both the Discovery and Adventure Ranger groups, so
I brought two boys up with me, one 8 year and one 12 year to show to the
church why we need to split them up. I already had two men interested but I
think this helped them decide to help. So I am working with them for a few
weeks
to help get them started. My suggestion is to bring some of the boys up with
you and let one of the best speaking boys say a word about how much they
enjoy Rangers, and ask the church to help them. Maybe through the boys God will
speak to a open heart. I will try to answer the other question as well.
