There is a section in my book "Leadership and the Perfect Outpost" on
recruiting leaders: http://www.zalakos.com/perfect/recruit/recruit.html

It includes a discussion on things that are not effective:

1. We beg for help

2. We run an uninspiring, boring program

3. We look to blame others

4. Our group never achieves anything

5. We keep trying the same old things

6. We don't think objectively

7. We don't know how to motivate the team you have

8. We don't share success or allow others to succeed

9. We're not successful in other areas of life

10.We get over spiritual

And some suggestions for things that I've found effective:

1. Sell vision not duties

2. Sell the benefits

3. A large recruitment pool leads to good leader selection

4. Package the role uniquely for each new leader

5. Be flexible in how you use help

6. Bring in outside help for large scale recruitment

Let me know if these are useful for you.

Victor.
