We use Spring Security 3.0, so you (or whomever takes your contract offer)
should be able to modify the security application context to support AD:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7438246/configuring-spring-security-ldap-3-0-to-work-with-active-directory-lds

As for the database, we do have configuration documentation regarding how to
connect to MySQL:
http://incubator.apache.org/rave/documentation/configure-database.html

Please let us know the documentation needs work.

Very glad to hear that this. It is our goal to build a community and platform
that supports this exact scenario.
