Paul,
You can start an external application from R:Base using the Launch command.
This is the code I use to access a C++ executable that connect to and Access
database. Once the programs is executed, on return I connect to the Access
database and get the data moved to the R:base database. A little convoluted but
it is pretty transparent once you get it going.

-- Define Path for Application
SET VAR vfinance TEXT = 'C:\Program Files (x86)\sPMS Program\sPMS.exe'
-- Launch application on a modal window
LAUNCH &vfinance |||NORMAL

Now, from the manual, you have options to launch your external application with
a specific file via the various parameters…

You can look at this example that looks like something you could use…

LAUNCH 'winword|"C:\Word Documents\TestFile.DOC" "/mMacroName"|W'

This will invoke the MS Word with TestFile.DOC running the MacroName macro.

Hopefully this is of use to you. J

Javier,

I forgot to mention that the reports from Crystal are based on a SQL database
and not R:BASE.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

I believe you would have to access the R:Base database from Crystal via
ODBC/Oterro and it should work OK…at least in theory, and you can start Crystal
from within an R:Base application, I do this with other applications.
As a side note, the first version of R:Base for Window, version 5 something,
included Crystal Reports as the report writer. The distributions disks also
included a virus and we were quickly notified and send replacement floppies. If
I recall correctly, this might have been the last version for Microrim/Abacus
before RBTI took over.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Crystal Reports & R:BASE Extreme X.5

Good afternoon,

I’m running the latest update of eXtreme X.5, does anyone know if I can print a
report created in Crystal Reports from inside an R:BASE application? I know I
can recreate the reports with R:BASE, which I plan to do, but because of a time
crunch I’m in from delaying a project because of COVID-19 I’m wondering if I
can print them from my application.

TIA,
Paul Buckley
