Again I agree. In fact we are doing so much agreeing it silly.

Where I differ from you, some others, and the original quote is that these kids who just sit were not created in a vacuum. My 2 sons get limited TV and video games and in my neighborhood that is certainly the exception. If left to their own devices they would easily OD on that stuff.

The vast majority of parents don't even pay attention to their kids unless they absolutely have to. I sit on my front porch and play guitar in the evening (does anyone remember 'Girl of My Dreams' by Bram Tchaikovsy?) as I can watch my two boys at the same time. Only 1 other family in our cul-de-sac (about 10 houses) supervises their children. Some expect me to watch theirs!

My neighborhood would be prime fodder for cult recruitment and child molesters.

The problem with the quote is that, as if by magic, someone is going to read it and change their ways - that merely the thought will change things. And it blames the 'sitter.'

If you see a child who just sits look no farther than the parent.
