and develop programs in a new version and it can be run under the old
v6.5 environment, they may not object. But they are adamant about
upgrading to higher with their own (local Government money). Can this be

I remember you from the Conference and regret I did not get the chance to
speak with you personally. I have not worked in a government environment,
but I receive a great amount of feedback from the R:BASE users and
developers ranging from 2.11 to 7.5 in federal, state, county, municipal,
etc. agencies (and that includes Razzak), whom can confirm that upgrading
software may not be easy, but it can always be done.
I believe what Oma wrote is true in that time is the biggest determining
factor when deciding whether to switch versus upgrade. If you show them the
numbers, and the numbers don't lie, they will be believers!
As far as running R:BASE 6.5++ (Windows/DOS) in conjunction with R:BASE 7.5
(Windows/DOS), yes you can! The Forms, Reports, and Labels that were
designed and used with R:BASE 6.5++ for Windows will remain unchanged in
the SYS_FORMS2, SYS_REPORTS2 and SYS_LABELS2 tables. Only new and converted
versions of those Forms, Reports, and Labels will be saved in the
SYS_FORMS3, SYS_REPORTS3, and SYS_LABELS3 tables. Any changes made in
Forms, Reports and Labels using R:BASE 6.5++ Form, Report and Label
Designer will be available to users of R:BASE 6.5++ for Windows, and will
not affect Forms, Reports, and Labels available to users of R:BASE 7.5. Any
changes made in Forms, Reports and Labels using R:BASE 7.5 Form, Report and
Label Designer will be available to users of R:BASE 7.5, but will not
affect the Forms, Reports, and Labels for use with R:BASE 6.5++.
You will be able to show your clients the new R:BASE 7.5 reports and forms
with their data!
As everyone likes to see results, your clients will surely be taken by
surprise by what R:BASE now has to offer. You may even want to enlist the
help of one of the Authorized Developers to get your project streamlined.
