The last time I had this the network tech found a bad switch.
It seemed to work but when he tried to just open the mapped drive it took
over 1 minute
and then he knew it was hardware and not RBase related.
He even put in a 10/100 and it screamed, so he just replaced the 1G switch.
From what I gather it seems to work when they tested it but just real slow.

Charles, it sounds to me as if you have network problems rather than
trouble with the database. Have your network guru do some transfer tests
to find the weak link.
