Since you will have to clean up the code why don't you just purchase
7.6 or 9.x and let them keep running in 4.5 until you get everything in
7.6 or 9.x. That way they will only be paying for 1 R:Base upgrade and
you won't have use DOS at all.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Re: Upgrading a DOS version

Ooops, I forgot that multi-user DOS software isn't part of the
package. Know what I was thinking of? If I remember right, a
version of windows 6.5 is provided so that DOS forms/reports can
be converted to 6.5 windows first and then come into 7.6/9.0. So
for some reason I assumed that DOS 6.5 would also be provided...
My bad...

So the user is first going to have to upgrade their DOS version up
to 7.6 multi-user, pay me to clean up their very sloppy coding because
I doubt their code will work in 7.6. (Loaded with lines like:
vcount = .vcount + .v2, with no "set var", no parens) And then buy an
upgrade to windows... I'll have to price that out for them. They are a
tiny
manufacturing shop struggling to stay afloat...

In addition, knowing the fact that R:BASE 7.6 is the currently
available version of R:BASE for DOS, why would someone recommend
the 6.5 (LEGACY - Non-Supported) version of R:BASE?

On the top of that, who will provide the software license(s)
for R:BASE 6.5 for DOS? Definitely not R:BASE Technologies,
Inc., or its partners.

What if the end-user makes a phone call directly to R:BASE
Technologies and finds out that R:BASE 7.6 is the currently
available version of R:BASE for DOS? In that case, RBTI will
refer the end-user to one of the members of R:BASE Consulting
Group (with vested interest in R:BASE) to handle such situation.
These members are available to help from Boston to Bangladesh!

Having said that, it is a very easy and smooth conversion
from R:BASE 4.5 for DOS to R:BASE 7.6 (or 9.0) for DOS.

If you really want to see how easy the conversion is, make sure
to attend the special session on Upgrading to 9.0 at the 2010
Annual R:BASE Conference (October 9 - 10, 2010).

Very Best R:egards,
