My apologies to the list for the message I posted yesterday shown below.
For some reason my brain registered "Canon" when Jim's message said "Epson".
It was probably because I went through the same problem with Canon last
summer that he is going through with Epson right now.  Insofar as Canon
printers are concerned I wasted a lot of time trying to find a solution and
found none.

        Call Canon and ask them.  I have a Canon 2300 and it doesn't
understand ASCII and I don't think the 900 does either.  The 600 and 800 are
recommended if you want to print ASCII output.  I have talked to Canon
technical support about this issue and according to them there is no way
that the Windows only printers can accept straight ASCII input.  ASCII print
jobs have to be output to a file and then printed using something like
Notepad.  How wonderful for us all.
