VB provides you a lot more power, especially in the forms application. Some
of the features I like most are:
- Programatically enabling and disabling controls
- Hiding controls
- More powerful object oriented programming
- Wealth of intrinsic and third party controls
- Directly addressing control from event procedures
- Variety of event procedures
My first VB using R:Base conversion project came about because the windows
application we developed in R:Base just did not have the same look and feel
as other windows applications. R:Base for Windows has dramatically improved
since then, but it still falls short of having a complete windows look and
feel.
The cons are simple. Learning curve and expense. VB is not an easy
language to learn. Although I have developed some tricks for developing VB
that simplify the process, it will still take you longer to develop in VB
than in R:Base.

Subject: Visual Basic & R:BASE
Good day everyone:
How many of you folks are using visual basic to
write an interface to R:BASE files rather than using the
built in forms generator?
If you are using visual basic to do this what are
the pros and cons associated with it? Please be brief if
possible. Thanks in advance for your input.
