Gotta throw my two cents in here. Ben makes excellent sense.
R:Base has the strength of enabling ordinary folks with a little smarts to
really use the power of SQL in a package that is relatively easy to learn. I
has enough depth to provide great functionality with Rapid App Development.
Depending on you needs and abilities, you may never outgrow it. I've been
writing almost exclusively in R:Base for over 15 years.
VB is another animal. It opens up the door to real event driven, object
oriented programming, with the best IDE (Integrated Development Environment)
on the planet.
A very steep learning curve though, which is what comes with this kind of
power.
But it is not going to go away and has been getting better every year. And
it is designed from the top down to do virtually anything you need to do in
Windows.
Couple that with R:Base via Oterro and you have a pretty good thing,
with code you can reuse 95% if you ever need to ramp up beyond the power of
R:Base.
Actually, because you can have multiple R:Base databases open at the same
time, with absolutely no speed sacrifice it would take some doing for most
applications to outgrow it.
A little perspective, It took me just a few days to start having fun with
R:Base.
I was only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
16 years later, it has taken me months to really start to have fun with VB.
Wonder how big this iceberg is.
Oh, BTW, I think "RA RA" is a great nickname for Razzak.
Maybe someone will write anther song for the conference.

Subject: RE: RBase Vs Power Builder
Hi All,
According to Bernie Corrigan, every software environment I either get actual
training and/or certified in goes by the wayside (case in point -
Powerbuilder, SilverStream, Tango). and I was trained by an official
Powerbuilder Training Center and have Serveral projects that didn't hold up
to time under powerbuilder.
I recommend not using powerbuilder. The tough thing will be is to get them
to stop using Sybase backend database, since powerbuilder is just a front
end product.
For the Record, I am not officially anything with R:Base for fear of jynxing
it... B-)
