I think Mr. Crued is putting us on. His last post contradicted his original
post.
I take the listserver, RBase and my profession very seriously. It is the way
that I make my living. The list server is a public medium and it is viewed by
other professionals as well as customers. I am careful of my grammar and
spelling because I know that it is not one of my strong points and that it can
reflect negatively on my professionalism. To me this are serious issues and I
am very zealous about my customers and potential customers. I treat this list
server as a professional developer's tool. A tool that is viewed by developers,
customers and, potential customers. The key word here is CUSTOMERS. To me this
list server is not a place to have fun by posting issues of ridicule or
undermining the confidence in the environment where many of us make a living.
I want to be able to tell any potential customer about the listserver so that
they can get a feeling of the community of developers out there that are ready
to help if he/she does not want my services anymore. Do not kid yourselves, in
the back of every potential customer there is an unanswered question:
What am I going to do after I have INVESTED $$$$$$$$$$ with this guy and he
turns out to be a flake, or dies, or becomes a drug addict???? Unless you can
set at ease those concerns he/she will not use your services and will foolishly
fall in the advertisement trap set up by Microsoft and like a lamb to the
slaughter house will go to Mr. Billy's world. We are all in this together and
unless we stand together in the eyes of our customers and potential customers we
will have NO CUSTOMERS. Without customers I will not be able to do what I
really have fun doing which is, writing database applications.
I am a lucky guy. How many human beings out there can say that they have real
fun at their work? When I read posts written by other developers their personal
enthusiasm and the excitement about their work can be felt through their words
and then I know that I am not alone.
