I couldn't get sattach to work.  seems that might be a faster approach.  The odbc for foxpro is no longer supported, it said.  so I tried visual foxpro, it created the odbc but it didn't work on this version of foxpro (2.6 (X))   Anyone have any ideas here? If ATTACH and GATEWAY don't do it, open the files in Foxpro and convert them to some other format that R:Base can read.  I believe the command is COPY TO with some kind of format specifier.  Inside Foxpro you can get help from the menu or by typing HELP in the command window. -- Larry
