I do not know a way to physically copy the live data base without
potentially creating a corrupted data base. What you need is a
dedicated machine that does nothing but run an application that reads
through the sys_tables and unloads the data from the live data base.
You do not have an instantly available data base this way, but you have
the data necessary to rebuild a data base that should be close to a snap
shot of the data base. Because of timing, you can have problems with
referential integrity. You also have to make sure that you reload the
data in the correct sequence or remove and reload the referential
integrity during the reloading process.

Subject: Backing Up a Live Database

I am designing a disaster recovery procedure that will require me to
copy a
live Rbase 6.5++ database approximately five times a day. I am looking
for
some suggestions. The database does use an ODBC driver to an archived
database of older data prior to upgrade of 6.5++. If the database server

were to go down, I would like to have another copy of the database at an

off-site location, and redirect users on Citrix to that off-site server.
I
am beginning to research the best possible way to do this if possible at

all. I am open for suggestions. I thank you all in advance.
