Dick,

Make sure you have the most current drivers for the scanner.  Go to the HP WEBSITE and check for new drivers.  This is a shot in the dark but in the past most quirky problems I have had were driver related.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Off Topic, But A Question

I know this is off the regular R:Base topics, but I'm
posting it to see if any of my fellow R:Base users have
had a similar experience and/or can offer a clue or two.

I'm running Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 on new
computer, and I'm having one heck of a time getting my
HP 6100 scanner to stay installed.

Sometimes when I shut the computer down and then start up
again later, it's still there. Other times it uninstalls
itself and I have to go to the "Add Hardware" process to
set it up again.

Needless to say, this is one "royal pain" because before
I plan to do a scan, I have to go to the "Hardware Manager"
to see whether the HP 6100 is installed, and, if not, to
install it.

The SCSI card is working correctly and always stays installed;
just the scanner "goes missing." Once I reinstall the scanner,
it stays for at least that full session, and works properly
with the scanning interface program.

If anyone can provide me with any clues as to what may be
happening -- I'm still trying to figure out W2K -- and/or how
to cure this problem, I'll be very grateful.

You can reply privately to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] so
as not to clutter up the R:Base list.

Thanks!!!!!

Dick Croy
