We run a Novell network and NDS printer services. With R:base on each of the local machines and the various databases sitting on the server speed at startup can change as follows. If the local machine (running RB6.5++) has a local printer the startup is fast, if a similar local machine has a network printer as the default printer the startup is s l o w. So, while you might not think there is overhead or time delay my best guess is that there has to be some.
