We use the same method for DOS as we do for Windows
version of RBase. Both are installed on the server
and the exe is run from the server like Sami says.
What we do for the NAME settings to be different for
each is to have a directory on the network called
RBUsers. We have one directory called usersname and
in this directory we have a RBW65 and RBD65 directory
which hold a copy of the RBase.cfg file. Also in this
usersname directory we have copied a shortcut to each
version of rbase and modified the command line to look
like this for the Dos version:
K:\rbti\RBDOS65\RBASE65.EXE -ok:\rbusers\usersname\rbd65\rbase.cfg default.dat
-r
-- and like this for the Win version:
K:\rbti\RBWIN65\RBG65.EXE -ok:\rbusers\usersname\rbw65\rbase.cfg default.dat -r
The -o switch lets us choose the location for the
rbase.cfg file.
This way each time we setup a new user we just copy the
directory usersname back into the RBUsers directory on
the network and change the copied version of this new
directory to the users name. Then change the command line
in each of these shortcuts where it says usersname so it
looks like this now:
K:\rbti\RBWIN65\RBG65.EXE -ok:\rbusers\jlimburg\win65\rbase.cfg default.dat -r
We change each of the RBase.cfg files NAME setting and
we are setup. Then just copy the shortcuts to the users
desktop and we are in business.
For RBase Windows we have just left one RBASE.INI file in the
directory for RBase on the network, and to my knowledge it
has not caused us any problems.
I like Sami's idea of just changing this to one RBase.cfg file though
for the Windows version and using the new CVAL setting to
track all this:
(CVAL('UserID'))
Returns the Windows User ID
(CVAL('NetUser'))
Returns the currently logged-in network user name.
(CVAL('Computer'))
Returns the name of your computer.
(CVAL('UserDomain'))
Returns the name of logged-in network domain.
I wish this would work in the DOS version of RBase. This would save a
lot of time and headache.
Hope this helps
