still trying...Alastair,

The reason you can't jump between open forms, is
that you don't "Really" have two open forms. You have a
child form open with the parent form in the background.

Once I made the mistake of using the original form
as the MDI form. The problem there was that I could keep
opening more MDI forms until I had seven or eight open
(stacked up) until memory became full. At that time the
screen would not fully open and it became very slow.

The forms could be closed in the same consecutive
fashion back to the original parent. At that time things
were back to normal.

I tested a similar command in ConComp, the sample database:

edit MDI employee as 'worker bees' ORDER BY
Emplname,Empfname AT 100,100,900,490 CAPTION 'Christmas
Tracks' NOHEADER

In order to leave the form you have to use the escape
button. The phrase 'worker bees' has no effect because it
simply renames the original form which was called
'employee.'

The same results came from:
EDIT USING employee ...and so forth. It looks like an MDI
form because you control the size. But the real benefit
from MDI is when you use the form as a supplement to another
form.

I have used such forms to bring up payment options such as
check and check#, date of payment, and various charge card
options from an Order form. The options would be cluttered
if they always appeared on the form. But when you want to
enter payment information, it is very nice to see only
payment options, select those which apply, test the data,
save it, and return to the form it was called from.

Take care.
