Inspite of what the help file in 7.1 says, ("In multi-table views you can
edit data but you cannot add or delete rows") as I now understand it you
can't edit multi-table views in 7.1 - I have this on good authority (ie from
Razzak) who enlightened me a few weeks ago, as follows:-
"FYI, you CANNOT update the view based on more than one table.

"Updating Multi-Table Views. applicable when using
the browser (Info and Views menus), when using a form,
and with the UPDATE command.
New Feature
Before this update to R:BASE, only single table views
could be edited using the browser, a form, or the
UPDATE command. Now views constructed from multiple
tables can be edited. Data in a linking column or
from either side of a one-to-many relationship can be
edited. The result of the update can only be seen
when the data is refreshed by exiting the browser or
form and then re-entering.
If you are in multi-user mode, R:BASE may be set to a
frequency at which it refreshes the data in the form.
to check this setting; choose Settings from the Tools
Menu and then choose Autorefresh Interval from the
Multi-User menu, or type SHOW REFRESH at the R> prompt
and use SET REFRESH to specify the setting.
Changing a value in the linking column can cause rows
to disappear if they no longer match the view's
selection criteria. Non-updatable views occur when
inserting or deleting rows, and with view containing
SORT or GROUP BY clauses."
A cursory review of my BOOK CATALOG application shows
that under v6.5+ for DOS you can still use updateable
muti-table views. I just recently installed v7.1 for
DOS and V7.1 for Windows. I haven't tried out the
book catalog application under either v7.1 version.
