Campy Record headsets were notorious for pitting very easily. That and the broken cranks and rear axles, and the poor stopping brakes and the extra price and the silly mystique is why I quit riding Campy along time ago. I am sure they have caught up to Japanese manufacturers in many ways such as finally being able to copy Suntour's rear derailer, or Shimano click shift. The price problem and mystique thing continues.
