So, I'll throw my .02 cents (or is that 2 lbs) in... I have a 57cm Bleriot with the standard Riv build (bar ends, LX rear, Nitto cockpit,B17) with the addition of a brass bell, Nitto top rack with big loafer, kickstand and Maxy Fasty tires. Total weight is 31#.....(wow!)
My other ride is a Salsa scandnium cyclocross bike with mid to low grade components (Tiagra/105) and Mavic Open Proo/Ultegra wheels. This bike weighs 20# on the nose with a Terry Fly Ti saddle and 22.5# with the B17 with a Kevan's bag.... I can tell you there is a VERY appreciable difference when riding on anything other than flats! I just test rode a Look carbon bike the other day that weighs in at 18# (verified on the scale), only a couple of pounds more than my Salsa. I can't even begin to tell you how much better that Look climbed! It was like it was pushing me up the hills... Carbon and lightweight isn't the end all/be all of bike riding, but it matters! I'll always have a steel bike or two and I still really want an Orange Ram, but I'll tell you what....Carbon is the future. Of course, weights vary based on equipment, but nothing here is all > that heavy, considering what you get for the weight that's there. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
