My 57 cm(c-c) 650c '99 Joe fixed gofast weighed 17.75 lb with Nitto cage and
Speedplay X-1 pedals. My 58 cm 559 '03 Curt, in its original form as a
gofast 1X10, otherwise similarly set up, weighed exactly a pound more. Now
that the '99 has track pedals and clips and straps, I suppose it weighs half
a pound more, and the '03, now a fixed conversion, with its fenders plus Fly
rack and B&M taillight and the clip and strap pedals, probably weighs 2 lb
more even without the rear cluster and derailleur and shifter. Both of these
bikes have stout tubing and rather heavy frames and forks. The Motobecane,
also a 57 or 58, weighs considerably more thanks to the wheels, largely,
tho' it lacks the Dura Ace seatposts and ti Phil bbs of the Rivendells; this
even though the frame and fork themselves are noticeably lighter. Of course,
the gofast has permanently attached a Country Bag ...

I think I must save a couple of lbs on each Riv thanks to the 559 and 571
wheels and tires.

I wouldn't place a bet on the actual measurements, but the '99 feels faster
than the other two, and the '03 feels faster than the Motobecane, which
itself feels spritely -- noticeably spritely compared to the Nishiki, which
is a dog largely I hope because of the soon to be replaced (Thanks again,
Joe!) cheap 27 1 1/4 tires. (The Nishiki wags more than the others; perhaps
it will plane?)
