I havent had very good luck with zip ties-- they seem to break and when they do it leads to others breaking and then you have complete catastrophic failure. I have used several different types of zip ties and have used up to 30 of them at a time-- still doesnt hold. I would use bar tape and hose claps. You could probably use 6 of them and it would hold more securely than 100 zip ties and they come off pretty easily. I would wrap the rack and basket with the tape first. I have dumped my books, bag, and laptop (didnt break), but wouldnt want to drop my dog.
