Oh, I doubt that very much. I take my master links apart in order to clean and relube my chains at roughly 100 mile intervals, and my chains last typically at least 5,000 miles, often more, and I've never had a master link fail. I use SRAM chains, mostly 9 speed.



For some folks, 1000 miles is as long as a chain will last.  One of my riding 
buddies gets maybe 2000 miles on his chains; I get close to 4000 miles.

I use SRAM or KMC chains, whichever are available.  KMC is a smoking deal.  The 
KMC master links can be bought in bulk; I keep a couple in my bike bag.  I have 
also saved someone's ride when their chain broke.
