Without landing directly on a rock, there's probably not that much you can
do to the frame offroad.  Wheels/Spokes are a whole different manner -
that's what will typically fail first.  Just try to gear your speed to the
conditions and your ability.

Plenty of big guys "ride light", which is the key to riding lighter gear on
trails.
