If "the man" is the idea that carbon fiber is the only real material that serious cyclists consider-- that everything else is a compromise, then i think being anti-"the man" is a plus. That is how I interpret Surly's ads-- we make good, smart bikes that arent what the Bicylcling's Buyers Guide tell you to buy. And i think that on a smaller scale (and toned down a bit) Riv has the same message.
As for a TIG'd Riv-- if it could be US made-- then maybe, if not, I really hope it never happens. That market is well covered, now more than ever.
