Steve is ever the gentleman. Often wrong, but always a gentleman. FWIW: I rode my Dura Ace/Tourney centerpull equipped Motobecane circa 11 miles home just now and returned on the Riv commuter equipped with either Superbe or high-end Dia Comp single pivots, both brakes using the same or very similar Matthausers and identical aero Dura Ace brake levers. The centerpulls are definitely more powerful; not by a lot, but by enough to assert this without hesitation.
Both these bikes have single, front brakes and similar or identical cables and housing.
