This weekend I was finally able to finish installing the Paul Racer
centerpull brakes on my Homer. They replaced the Silver sidepull brakes. I
also switched to Koolstop Thinline salmon pads. While I haven't had a chance
to ride them a lot, so far, with the Shimano R600 brake levers, they feel
great. Great modulation and stopping power.

These are the version that do not require braze-ons, but instead have the
center mount that makes them compatible with any frame that doesn't have the
proper braze-ons for centerpull brakes.

If you don't already have the brakes, then costwise this could make sense
for you as you wouldn't have to send the frame to have the braze-ons welded
and additionally buy the brakes. If you do have the brakes, well, then the
braze-ons may make more sense costwise.

One aditional advantage with the centerpull brakes, is that when I release
the cables to remove the wheels, the brakes don't press on my fenders and
fully open the gap between the pads.
