Och! Well, you've already tried the fix that solve my ghost shifting issues
(the great pulley swap maneuver). I'm hardly mechanical, but it sounds like
there is friction in the system. Narrow down where that is happening and
the solution may present itself. Play with it on the stand and listen for
noise, then triangulate the source of the noise till you see something off.
I'd look for derailure limit adjustments, a bent pulley arm, a stiff chain
link (feel for this, but you'll also easily see at the pulleys when
backpedaling), but could be anything in the drive train. Even positioning
of the chainring in or out might make a difference, especially if you have
an extreme line.

Ahhh. I just noticed your comment on using a narrower chain. That could be
the entire issue. I run a 7-8 speed chain on my hunq with a narrow-wide
that wants a smaller chain and it works just fine. Never dropped, even on
stupid jauncy stuff (though mine isn't Wolf ... yet). Upsizing the chain is
where I'd start.

Keep us posted!

With abandon,
Patrick
