I would strongly recommend against anyone riding south to north in CA-- not that it isnt do-able, just that it probably isnt gonna be a lotta fun, unless you like riding into strong winds. Get the Mountaineers book about cycling the Pacific Coast and read the first few chapters- at least then you will know what you are getting yourself into.
