Hugh,

Indeed, my 96 AR has a "speared" Rivendell and no decals on the seat tube
aside from the Reynolds tubing designation. Actually it's pretty plain.

Here's a snap of the bare
frame<http://www.flickr.com/photos/42027576@N00/8595610987/in/photostream/lightbox/>

Interesting question you raise regarding possible "de-valuing" of a frame
by repainting it as I am considering doing just that. I dont like yellow AT
ALL but must admit some nagging guilt about removing an original paintjob
and more so the DT logo. That said, this frame will always be the 51st
Rivendell regardless of color. There was some lively discussion regarding
the repaint the very first Rivendell All Rounder from it's mythic pumpkin
hue to a black and royal blue scheme before being sold. Although it was a
striking combination and expensive paintjob, the general consensus was that
it had lost value of monetary AND historical sense. It was THE bike that
brought much love and admiration to the brand and was widely championed. I
have two favorite Rivendells of all time and it was one of them. In the end
though, it's just paint and riding the bike is what's important.
