okay, went and made the first set of cuts. this time i used the smaller dia 
 bit. this bit isn't quite the same as the other cutting bit, so the edges 
are a  bit more jagged, but nothing a little sanding can't fix
 
i decided that i want to glue the parts together as i don't want the parts  
to shift in the middle of milling, so i used that terrible Harbor freight 
epoxy  again. i also shot it with some primer as there was getting to be too 
many  marker marks on it and didn't want to read the wrong marks and mess 
things  up.
 
i tried to get some pictures before and after i shot it with primer, but  
none of them are nice and clear, so i'll post a blurry one :)
 

 
as i forgot that it's a bit cool outside, i'll let the epoxy set up for the 
 night and the primer to dry before i attempt the last 2 cuts
