I use a DX5e in my Valentine - originally with the aircraft type RX. This was soon replaced with the BR6000 RX because the AR type would cycle all the servos when switched on including the trigger servo - not a good idea if the gun is gassed and loaded . . .
As for servos, I've used whatever is lying around from RC cars long dead. Futaba, Acoms and unbranded cheap chinese knockoffs have all worked perfectly well with the Spektrum RX.
