You may be right, but the real tracks, on real tanks, use this
construction and they work!?
There will be about 600 spring retainer clips that could fail and
allow the track to come apart.
If you look at the larger industrial roller chain, they have two
cotter pins per link, and they have good service life.

Yes, I worried about the 1/8 inch pin strength also, but after
building this prototype, I have no doubts about the strength.
The worst case, would be the track riding up on the center guides and
bending in the middle. I can push (with both hands), trying to bend
the tracks in half, and I cant even feel them deflecting. Also, this
prototype is using brass pins, the real one will use stainless steel
pins (about 2.5 times stronger than brass). Thats why the prototype,
figure out the problems before investing a lot of time.
