Or just pirate the drivetrain out of a R/C monster truck..... Some R/C crawler 
sites sell the straight axle rears and diffs.......

  what i am thinking is, have the motor power one wheel's axle directly, but 
put a break between it and the other wheel axle. at the break put a disc on one 
side (maybe wood) and a disc on the other side (wood with leather?). they would 
make contact with one another, not forcefully, but maybe enough to give the 
other wheel some power when going straight and when you make a turn, it'll 
allow for slippage - sort of like a poor mans clutch?
