Speed controls:
If you want something homemade and cheep, then get this.

its made using relays and is about as simple as they get. There is
even a diagram to build it.

Note that this speed control does not offer variable speed tho. simply
full on or off throttle.

Motors:
Speed or torque, pick one or get bigger motors. The heavier the tank
the more torque you will need to perform those full skid turns. If you
want both then look into bigger motors such as 24v 450w-600w as seen
below. perferably ones with gear reduction.

Pictures:
Open a flickr or Photobucket account and upload photos to there. Then
post links here to those photos. The more you share the more we see
and understand how to advise. Mostly we like to see what others are
building :) .

Tank:
What purpose is this tank trying to acomplish if not pantball?
Is it modeled after anything, or is it 100% custom?
What are the exterior dimensions? L - W - H
What are you building materials?
